Physiology as a basic medical science

Posted on 9:34 PM by Ahsan Iqbal

Physiology is the science of function that is physiology is that basic medical science which deals with the functional aspect of different structures present in the body. Physiology describes the mechanisms of these functions as well as their importance for survival.
Since the subject of medicine and surgery as a whole is related to identifying and then treating various diseases so the question is that what is the role of physiology in all this.
The answer is simple that is if you don’t know the function of an organ how will you diagnose the problem of that organ because to a patient the problem appears in the normal functioning for example suppose a patient has some hormonal problem which is causing general weakness of the body. Now  if you don’t know the function of different hormones in the body you cannot diagnose and consequently treat the problem and you are just a looser.
So the moral of the story is that physiology is in fact a basic medical science whose knowledge is of utmost importance for medical students.

Anatomy is the science of structure that is anatomy is that basic medical science which deals with the structural aspect of different organs and tissues present in the body. Anatomy describes how different organs are made up and how their theme of manufacturing is important for the function they perform.
Since the subject of medicine and surgery as a whole is related to identifying and then treating various diseases so the question is that what is the role of anatomy in all this.
The answer is simple that is if you don’t know the structure of an organ how will you diagnose the problem of that organ because to a patient the problem appears in the normal functioning and the function of an organ is related to its structure. In fact anatomy is a basic medical science whose knowledge is of utmost importance for medical students.

Understanding the three basic medical sciences

This post is going to explain the basic understanding of the three basic medical sciences described in the previous post which are;

Anatomy
Physiology
Biochemistry

After reading the lines below, you will understand that what these sciences are about and what is the scope of these sciences separately.

Anatomy:
Anatomy is the basic medical science which deals with the study of structure of organisms to describe as to how the organism is made up. Anatomy purely is a structural science and is concerned only with structural details.

Physiology:
Physiology is the basic medical science that deals with the function of organism to describe as to how the organism performs various functions and what are the mechanisms with which these functions are performed.

Biochemistry:
Biochemistry as the name indicates is the chemistry of living organisms. Biochemistry deals with the chemical basis of structure and function of living organisms. In other words biochemistry is the chemistry of anatomy and physiology.

The three basic medical sciences:

The three most basic medical sciences which are the most important and necessary part of the medical education are;

Physiology
Anatomy
Biochemistry

All of these basic medical sciences are inter-related to each other and to understand the concepts of one of them the understanding of concepts of other two are very necessary.
